Atelier Expected Q1 2027

What it is

Atelier is the 282 with no main-and-accent split. You choose a color for every single part, from the anodized stock we already have on the shelf.

When

We expect to open it in the first quarter of 2027.

Why not yet

Every color we make comes from a scheduled anodizing run, one tank per color, and we can't keep every color in stock at the same time. If we opened Atelier today, most builds would wait months for one missing color. We'd rather open it when we can build yours without that wait.

Leave your email and we'll let you know the day Atelier opens.

How a color reaches you

Three ways to get the color you want.

SPEC is a small company, and two things about color are genuinely hard: keeping a shade consistent from one anodizing batch to the next, and keeping ten colors available without promising what we cannot hold. So a color reaches you in one of three ways. Each tells you two things up front: when your rig ships, and when the color you want can be bought.

Premium colors are anodized in scheduled runs.

Each run opens one anodizing tank for one color, main and accent together. The schedule is published three to six months ahead. Order before a run's cutoff and your set is built in that run, and the page shows the date that run starts shipping before you order.

  • Paid in full at checkout, like any order, with no deposit step.
  • Refundable any time before your run's cutoff date.
  • Held until both colors are done, then shipped as one set. The run date is the day it leaves our warehouse, with transit on top.
  • Miss a cutoff and you wait for the next run.

Production takes about 45–60 days, counted from the day after a run's cutoff. That is production time only. Shipping is on top of it.

Built to perform, and to reflect your taste.

Most aluminum rigs look industrial by default. The 282 takes a different approach: sandblasted anodized aluminum and precision CNC details make a cleaner, more refined structure.

I built the 282 because every rig I tried felt out of place: great for sim racing, bad for home interiors. I wanted something I could personalize just like modding my project car, something that reflects taste, not just performance. The 282 does exactly that.

Bought in Abyss Black

amazing product

Roger C. · Verified buyer · September 2026

Bought in Abyss Black / Circuit Green

The quality of the metal parts is top tier. Very precisely designed as precisely machined.

For the price I paid roughly 2.5k USD, the customer experience was not good. I paid for the rig, seat, seat slider, and a 2 sets of titanium bolts. 4 weeks ago the initial purchase was completed. To date I have 0 hours on the rig because I am STILL missing 6 parts (pictures included). All of the missing parts are for the steering column/wheelbase section. After waiting for week with no communication the order had not shipped and i started emailing customer support. After a full 2 weeks the parts had finally shipped (fully listed as in stock even at time of writing the website still listed as in stock). After shipping delays as I went to build the thing, I realized that a total of 6 parts were missing Again pictures included. At time of writing, 4 weeks after the money left my account, I still don't have a completed rig. Customer support even confirmed that they knew the parts weren't in stock in the US, and it took me emailing them to find this out. Through all the waiting and mistakes on Spec's end they were never pro-active. Without raising a stink as a customer, I don't think I would have ever received the missing parts.

Had I known the amount of hassle and waiting that I was signing up for, I would have gone to micro center and bought a Sim lab chassis for 900 bucks and seat for 500 ish and walked out of the store with a complete rig. As good as the parts are, for the money, I cant say I'd recommend this. Money left my account on July 10th and the date of writing is August 7th and I still cant finish my chassis.

SPEC: Trevor — thank you for writing this out, and for taking the time to review the parts separately.

You waited too long, and that's on us. We're a small team still growing into the kind of operation our customers deserve, and on your order we were slower than we should have been — both in getting everything to you and in keeping you posted while it was in motion.

Your rig is complete now. You shouldn't have had to push to get there, and I'm sorry you did.

Bought in Heritage Green

The Studio 282 Sim Rig is a functional work of art designed by Artisans. The fit, the detail, the consistency of the parts, superb! Building was very pleasurable, seeing it come together, brilliant. The Studio is my first rig, I don’t have past builds to compare it to, but I have wrenched on my own personal dirt bikes over the years. Driving with The Studio is incredible compared to using a desk mount system. Super happy with my purchase! Super awesome customer support from SPEC as well.

Bought in Titanium Mist / Amber Drift

Perfect rig. I upgraded from a cheaper, tube frame rig that flexed under braking and steering. The Spec frame solved all of that. It is the most complete, well thought out kit I’ve ever assembled. Quality is perfect!

Bought in Heritage Green / Klein Horizon

What a system, it’s just simply stunning!

From start to finish the entire process of ordering, receiving, and assembling was amazing. This is definitely a premium rig (and comes with premium customer service) that not only looks amazing but is easy to install and really modular and intuitive. Honestly i think i could do the entire thing start to finish in less than 2 hours if I were to do it over

Ken (and Amber) were so easy to work with. They responded quickly to questions and I couldn’t be happier.

Money well spent and I highly recommend this rig. I’ll be adding more mods for sure!

Bought in Abyss Black / Spectral Purple

Beautiful cockpit. The anodization is excellent, all the colors on each piece match perfectly, especially the Spectral Purple. Directions were easy to follow, I recommend you go on YouTube and watch the video. One thing I did to protect the paint was add painted take to any piece that was going to potentially be moved as you set up the rig to your liking, keeps everything looking perfect.

Kudos to the entire Spec team, Ken and Amber were very responsive. If you have any reservations due to the cost, I can say its very well worth it in every regard. Do it!

Fit and finish

What is anodizing?

Anodizing converts the outer layer of the aluminum into a hard, colored oxide. It is an electrochemical process, and the color is part of the metal itself.

How is that different from powder coating?

Powder coat is a plastic coating sprayed on and cured, so it can chip or peel at an edge or an impact. Anodizing has no separate layer to chip: the color goes into the aluminum's surface. It's why SPEC anodizes the frame and the CNC connectors instead of powder-coating them.

Will the color chip or fade?

No. Because anodizing converts the surface rather than coating it, there's nothing to chip or peel the way powder coat does. Direct sunlight over years can dull any anodized finish slightly, same as it does any car or bike part. Keeping the rig out of direct sun keeps it looking new longest.

Is the finish glossy or matte?

Matte. Every part is sandblasted to a soft matte texture before anodizing, on both the frame and the connectors. It also hides fingerprints better than a gloss finish would.

How long does it take to assemble?

The 282 is designed for single-person assembly in about 60 to 90 minutes. A complete setup including wheelbase, pedals and seat takes roughly two hours. Every part is machined so the connector plates align without forcing, and step-by-step instructions ship with every rig.

Prefer to watch? The assembly guide is on SPEC's YouTube channel.

What makes the 282 different from other aluminum rigs in the market?

The 282 is designed as a complete, integrated system rather than a kit of parts. Frame, mounts, monitor support and accessories are engineered together for proportion, alignment and visual coherence, and color is integrated into the metal through full matte anodizing on both the frame and the connectors.

The difference you feel first is how easily it installs. Every extrusion is laser-marked, so each part lands where it belongs without measuring. The open slot lets a connector go on anywhere along a profile instead of being threaded in from the end. And Hook & Tilt lets you hang a wheelbase, monitor or seat on its mount with one hand, set the angle, then lock it down. That is what makes the 282 a real one-person build rather than a two-person afternoon.

Compatibility

Which wheel bases fit the 282?

The wheel deck bolts straight to Fanatec, MOZA, Simagic, Simucube 3, Asetek, Conspit and PXN direct drive bases on their standard bolt pattern. It is the most bottom-mount-capable wheelbase deck in the market. Simucube 2 Sport, Simucube 2 Pro and VRS bases use a different bolt spacing and need SPEC's separate front mount plate, sold on its own. The deck tilts 0–20° and slides 80 mm fore-and-aft so the wheel lands at your reach, whichever base you run.

Is the SPEC 282 compatible with direct drive wheel bases?

Yes. The 282 is engineered for direct drive wheel bases up to and beyond 30 Nm. The aluminum extrusion frame with structural connector plates eliminates flex even with the strongest force-feedback wheels.

What pedals fit the 282?

Most sim pedal sets on the market fit. The pedal base rides on 4040 extrusion, so angle, tilt and height are all adjustable, and the plate adapts to different bolt patterns rather than being drilled for one brand's holes. Sets drivers run on it today include the Simucube Active Pedal, Heusinkveld Sprint and Ultimate+, Simagic P2000, Asetek Forte and Invicta, and MOZA CRP2. Distance from the seat is adjustable too.

What monitor setups does the 282 support?

One monitor. The single monitor support on the rig takes a display up to 57″ ultrawide. The stand-alone single monitor stand fits most displays on a standard VESA pattern, 75×75 mm or 100×100 mm.

A large TV. Anything bigger than a monitor needs a specific adapter plate rather than the standard VESA mount. The Samsung 55″ Odyssey Ark is the one we fit most often. Tell us the model and we will confirm the plate before you order.

Triples. Triple screens run on SPEC's triple monitor stand, which comes in two sizes: 32″–37″ and 37″–55″.

What triple monitor mount do you have?

SPEC's triple is a free-standing stand, and it is built differently from most: the center extrusion extends and retracts, so the stand adapts its width to whatever displays you run inside its size band instead of being fixed for one screen. Each monitor sits on its own upright, so you can move one without taking down the other two.

It comes in two sizes: one for 32″–37″ displays, one for 37″–55″. Leg width is monitor-size dependent: the larger stand plants wider, so check the footprint against your room as well as your screens.

One thing to be clear about: there is no triple monitor mount that attaches to the 282 itself. Triples always run on the stand, set in front of the rig.

Does it work with PlayStation and Xbox wheels?

Yes. The 282 is hardware-agnostic: it mounts any wheelbase, pedal set or peripheral built for PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, including the console-licensed Fanatec, MOZA and Simagic direct drive systems above.

Ordering

How does picking two colors work?

You pick a main color and an accent color. The main color covers the anodized extrusions and some of the connector parts; the accent color covers the rest. Which parts fall on which side is set part by part, so a pairing reads as one designed object rather than a frame with contrasting brackets. Ten colors on each side, any pairing: a hundred combinations from one page.

Abyss Black, Frosted Silver, Titanium Mist and Heritage Green are kept in stock. Circuit Green, Amber Drift, Spectral Purple, Klein Horizon, Golden Apex and Obsidian Red are anodized in scheduled runs; the swatch tells you the ship date before you order.

What does the SPEC 282 cost?

$1,299 to $1,599, set by the exact pair you pick. Abyss Black, Frosted Silver, Titanium Mist and Heritage Green are the core colors. A core main with a matching accent is $1,299; a core main with any other accent color is $1,399. A premium main color adds $200, and on a premium main the accent adds nothing when it is a core color or matches the main. Only a second premium color on the accent adds $100. The price shown on the page is the price for your pairing, no math required.

Monitor mounts, handbrake supports and other accessories are sold separately.

What does “Preorder” mean on a color?

Six of the ten colors are anodized in scheduled runs rather than kept in stock, because each one needs its own tank. If your pick is between runs, ordering locks your set into the next scheduled run and the page shows the date that run starts shipping next to “Preorder”: the day it leaves our warehouse, with transit on top. You're charged in full at checkout, the same as any order, with no separate deposit step.

When does my order ship?

Every date on this page is a ship date: the day the finished set is in our warehouse and shipping can begin. Transit time is added on top of it.

The date shown is the later of your main and accent color's ready dates. SPEC holds the set until both are done, then ships everything together. If your two colors come out of different warehouses (Los Angeles and China), the set may arrive as two parcels on the same shipment window.

Can I change my color after I've ordered?

Not on the same order: a 282 is one bundled line item, and Shopify doesn't allow swapping the variant on an order already placed. Contact us and we'll cancel and rebook it in the color you want.

Where is the SPEC 282 made?

In China, and under SPEC's direct control. Extrusion, CNC machining, anodizing, metal work and laser etching each happen at a specialist plant, and SPEC manages every one of them directly rather than handing the whole job to a single supplier. Quality control and packaging are done in-house: every part is inspected 100% by SPEC before it goes into its retail box.

SPEC runs warehouses in Los Angeles and China for global distribution, and most international orders ship through SPEC's reseller and distributor network.
